MS. FOUND IN "A BOOK OF VERSES" *

Awake! The new sun brings in a new year,
Dispelling doubt, discouragement and fear,
The bright beams pouring from our nearest star
Cleave through the gloom, the mournful atmosphere.

Arise! Address the tasks that come to hand,
Draw comfort from our brave, though dwindling, band,
Give no man cause to chasten or complain
Of our neglect, "failure to understand."

Thus, when long shadows mark the setting sun,
Let it be said, our course was rightly run,
And when the Great Commander reads our log,
May we have earned a welcoming, "WELL DONE!"
