Death of a Classmate - Fred L. Wood

Fred L. Wood, 79, passed away Friday, Jan. 30, 2009, at the Yorktown Convalescent Center.

Fred was a longtime Peninsula resident living in the local area for 30 years. He was an avid photographer, stamp collector and master gardener.

He was born in Portsmouth, N.H. After graduating from the Naval Academy in 1954 and postgraduate school in Monterey, Calf., Fred Wood served as an officer in the Navy for 22 years.

Survivors include Margaret Wood, his wife of 54 years; his four children,Deborah Nakamura and her husband, John, Fred Wood Jr. and his wife, Marykim,Pam Dunkley and her husband, Michael, and Harold Wood and his wife, Diane;along with eight grand-children, Christopher, James, Christine, Josh, Patrick, Brooke, Sarah and Joe.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, at Amory Funeral Home, 410Grafton Drive, Grafton.

The family will receive friends following the service.

Graveside service will be held in New Hampshire, when the snow thaws
