Capt. Robert Russell Robertson, Jr., USN (Ret.), 80, of Chesapeake, passed away December 21, 2010 in his home.A native of Houston, TX, he was the son of the late Bob and Sarah Grace Robertson. He retired from the United States Navy in 1981 as a Captain after 32 years of service. He was a Bishop and faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter -day Saints and served as a family history missionary to Zimbabwe, as well as in Salt Lake City, UT. He was a 1954 graduate of the US Naval Academy. He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Anne Capps Robertson, nine children, Grace K. Schlosser and husband Tom, Robert R. Robertson and wife Donna, Molly H. Simonsen, Gregory H. Robertson and wife Fabriena, Kate L. Green and husband Greg, Dr. Glenn L. Robertson and wife Deanie, Anne S. deJong and husband Hans, Christopher B. Robertson and wife Heidi, and Nancy E. Hedrick and husband Stephen, three sisters, Harline Holder, Judy Barnidge, and Patsy Melancon, 46 grandchildren, 11 great-grand-children and a host of nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted Thursday, December 30, at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Princess Anne and Edwin Dr. in Virginia Beach. The burial with military honors will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home Great Bridge Chapel Wednesday, December 29, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to the Perpetual Education Fund or Humanitarian C/O The Mount Pleasant Ward, 412 Scarborough Dr., Chesapeake, VA, 23322.
