R. Louis ("Lou") Reasonover, Jr, passed away on Tuesday, June 7th at the age of 81, with his devoted daughters at his side. Lou was born on September 23, 1929 in Galveston, Texas where he lived until he was appointed to the Naval Academy in 1950. He is predeceased by the love of his life, Alyce ("Boots") Hardy Reasonover who passed in February of 2007, and to whom he was married for 52 years. He is survived by his two daughters and their husbands - Lou Ann and Win Carithers, and Laura and Jerry Whitlock - all residing in Culpeper, Virginia. Additonally he is survived by his younger brother, Donald Edward Reasonover of Orange, Texas and his two children, Eddie and Debbie Reasonover.
Lou Reasonover graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland- Class of '54. He earned his wings as a Naval Aviator and was attached to a Pacific Fleet Antisubmarine Warfare squadron flying carrier-based S2F aircraft home-ported in San Diego, California. He attended the Naval Postgraduate School at Monterey, California, graduating with a Master of Science in Physics while specializing in Nuclear Engineering. Lou served his country honorably for 35 years, including an extended tour of duty in Vietnam. He was a graduate of the Program for Senior Executives, Sloane School of Business Management (MIT, Cambridge), and held membership in Sigma Xi. In his last career assignment Lou served as Director of the Division of Mathematics and Science at the U.S. Naval Academy. He retired there as a Captain in June of 1985.
Lou's love of country was surpassed only by his love for his family. He was an avid reader, enjoyed bridge and crossword puzzles, love to dance, and was a distance-walker. His daily walks of four to eight miles made him a familiar part of the Culpeper landscape and his presence will be sorely missed.
Interment and honoring Lou's life will be private.
