Thomas Wood Moore blessed all our lives and graced his country, community and beloved family with unconditional love. He was a passionate, fun and feisty, strong and deeply spiritual man. He left us far too soon on June 19, 2014, following chronic illness.
Thomas Wood was born Dec. 6, 1931, in Fort Shafter, Hawaii. He lived a dedicated life of service to his country for more than 20 years after graduating from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis in 1954. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1954 to 1973, mainly on submarines.
In 1965, Thomas was baptized Catholic. On June 11, 1989, he became a clothed candidate as Thomas Elizabeth of the Trinity of God Moore for the Secular Order of Discalced Carmelites. He made his vows on June 6, 1996, becoming a Secular Carmelite to serve the remote in Idaho, Montana, and Eastern Washington. He retired to Sandpoint, Idaho, with his wife Terri, where he became deeply committed in his ministry with St. Joseph's Catholic Church, living by the words of St. John of The Cross: "Where there is no love, put love, and you shall draw forth love."
Thomas is survived by his beloved wife, Terri; and his daughters, Christine (Doug) Linwood, Kathryn (Lee) Schahrer, Carolyn (Joe) Vincent, and Mary (Ken) Davis; his grandchildren, Emily, Jarod, Nathan, Brian and Lila Belle; a sister, Nadine Moore; a brother, Roderick Moore; and by extended family, far and wide. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
The Rosary will be said 7 p.m. Monday evening, June 23, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. A funeral Mass will be held onTuesday, June 24, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with a reception to follow.
