Mr. Henry R. Weeks, Jr. of Columbia passed away on Thursday, November 27, 2014. Born in Norfolk, Virginia on August 14, 1930, Mr. Weeks was the only son of the late Henry R. Weeks and Alice W. Weeks of Folly Beach. Mr. Weeks was a retired employee of the U.S. Small Business Administration where he served as a loan officer and attorney. He also retired from the U.S. Army and had practiced law in Columbia. After his retirement, he served as an adjunct professor of law in the College of Hospitality, Retail, and Sport Management at the University of South Carolina. Mr. Weeks attended the U.S. Naval Academy and was a graduate of The Citadel and the USC School of Law. He was a member of Dentsville Lodge No. 398, AFM, and was also a York Rite and Scottish Rite Mason, and a Shriner. He was a Life Member of the Disabled American Veterans, the American Legion, and the National Rifle Association. Several years ago, he was an early member of the South Carolina Republican Party and served as a Vice Chairman of the Richland County Republican Party. He was an alternate delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1972. Mr. Weeks had been a competitive rifle marksman while in the Army, and was a member of the South Carolina Arms Collector Association. He sang with the Midshipman Choir while at the Naval Academy, and with the Cadet Choir while at the Citadel. Here in Columbia, he sang with the Columbia Lyric Theater. He is survived by his beloved wife of fifty-six years, Ursula; three children, Henry R. Weeks, III and wife Lisa of Blythewood, Manfred G. C. (Chris) Weeks and wife Kelly of Columbia, and Christine (Tina) Weaver and husband Brent of Lexington; six grandchildren, Alyssa Weeks (Wes), Richard Weeks, Erika Weeks, Julia Weeks, Brent Weaver, Jr. and Caroline Weaver; and sister, Delores W. Drawdy of Bonneau Beach, SC. The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 30, 2014 from 5-7pm at Kornegay and Moseley Funeral Home, 4645 Hard Scrabble Road, Columbia, SC 29229. The funeral will be held on Monday, December 1, 2014 at 11 am at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church on 3909 Forest Dr., Columbia, SC 29204. Interment with Masonic and Military honors will follow at Fort Jackson National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Shriners Hospital for Children, the Scottish Rite Foundation, or Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
