Captain Matthew Pasztalaniec, USN
June 20, 1930 - January 5, 2015
Monterey, CA
Captain Matthew Francis Pasztalaniec, USN (Ret.) passed away suddenly in his home in Monterey, CA on January 5, 2015.
Matt was born on June 20, 1930 in Philadelphia, PA to George and Veronica Pasztalaniec. He graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1954 and proudly served for 30 years as a Naval Aviator He married the former Lorraine Scott of Garden City, NY and they recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Christmas Day. Their duty stations included Oslo, Norway, Sigonella, Sicily, London, Bermuda and ultimately the Naval Post Graduate School in Monterey, CA.
Matt cherished his family above all. There was nothing he wouldn't do for them to make life easier. His trips with Lorraine were sacred. Time spent with old classmates and his golfing buddies was treasured. A man of honor and integrity, he was the epitome of an officer and a gentleman.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Lorraine, and his three children, Matt (Kathy), Mark, and Wynne; his three grandchildren, Kayla, Lexi and Tai; and two great-grandchildren, Gianna and Emma.
Mat firmly believed that "the years may wrinkle your skin, but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul." He died young at 84, and he will be dearly missed.
The family plans a celebration of life later in the spring. For those wishing to honor Matt, the family suggests a contribution to the SPCA or the Veterans Transition Center of Monterey.
