Col. Harvey Taffet, USAF (Ret) of Indian Harbour Beach, died on March 3, 2016. He is survived by his wife Joan, sons Michael of Houston TX, Mark of Rockledge FL, daughter Terry Kopelman, son-in-law Marc Kopelman, granddaughter Sadie Kopelman of Fort Lauderdale and brother Col. M. Robert Taffet, USAF (Ret) of Montgomery, AL.
Col. Taffet was born on November 23, 1931 in Nutley, NJ. He attended Lehigh University, was a 1954 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, and a 1962 graduate of the Air Force Institute of Technology where he received a Masters degree in Electrical Engineering. He was a command pilot with over 4000 hours of flying time in 21 different aircraft, a rated navigator and a master missileman. His assignments included SAC, Air University, Air Force Logistics Command, Vietnam and the Air Force Systems Command. He was an original member of the 5th Air Commando Squadron in Vietnam and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, 10 Air Medals, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Force Commendation Medal and numerous other awards. He came to Patrick AFB in 1973 where he was the Director of Safety on the Eastern Test Range. Following retirement from the Air Force, Col. Taffet worked for USBI, Lockheed and SAIC.
