Once again we journeyed to NAS Jacksonville for the 16trh USNA Class of 1954 Snowbird Tournament. Festivities started on Tuesday April 5th with a cocktail hour at the "T-Bar" on the ground floor overlooking the beautiful St Johns River. Tee time for the Wednesday Scramble was at 1000. Scramble teams were picked per players handicaps. The Wednesday Scramble teams played the red and blue courses. Winners were: By Byington, Dick Padberg, Tom Watsun and Bll Greenlaw.
Our Class dinner was at the Officers Club following a cocktail hour. Classmate Ron Kurth gave an interesting presentation of Cold war issues and tactics of our primary foe, the USSR. Thursdays Scramble tee time was 0900. Winners were: By Byington (again), Dick Hartly and Bill Hoover.
Attendees were By & Harriett Byington (21), Frank & Carlene Caroccio (24), Rod & Marcia Crawford (12), Bill & Loraine Eager (Hon Mbr), Pete & Kathy Easton (9), Bill Greenlaw (5), Dick & Jodi Hartley (9), Bill Hoover (11), Les Huffman (4), Ron & Charlene Kurth (19), Ron Lief (18) & Joan Elmeier, Phil Livingston (5), Jake Marshall (12), Dick & Maggie Padberg (4), Noemi Pepperdine (4) and her mother Neida, Bob & Barbara Tolg (22), and Tom & Lynn Watson (4).
Following completion of play, lunch was served on the club house balcony. Tom and Lynn Watson invited all to their home for a cocktail party and also arranged dinner at a local restaurant on Fleming Island for those who could attend.
It is time for us to think about next year. We have had sixteen Snowbird tournaments. In 2017, Easter Sunday in April is the 16th, so the second week after Easter will be from 25th to the 27th .
