​ from the Saugatuck-Douglas Historical Society Tuesday Talk:  Saugatuck Lighthouse History presented by Norm Deam Presentation at the Old School House, 130 Center St., Douglas August 2, when the school bell rings at 11AM  Program sponsored by SDHS members Fran and Bill Myers  ________________________________________________________________________ The history of the Saugatuck Lighthouse will be presented at the upcoming Saugatuck-Douglas Historical Society "Tuesday Talk" on August 2, at the Old School House History Center, 130 Center Street, Douglas. The one-hour program begins when the school bell rings at 11 a.m. Public attendance is invited and audience participation is welcomed to further the discussion. Tuesday Talk admission is free for current S-DHS members. Non-member guests are encouraged to attend with a donation of five dollars, or become new members with initial dues payment at the Talk. For all, limited space puts seating on "first-come, first-served" basis. Lighthouse "Keeper" Norm Deam will speak of the lighthouse's history, the tornado that destroyed the lighthouse in 1956 and current remodeling that is taking place. He will detail the long relationship of his family and the lighthouse along with the relationship of the lighthouse and the Ox-Bow School of Art. Deam will also be talking about future plans for the lighthouse involving his son Eric Deam. A summer tradition since 1996, Tuesday Talks present entertaining and informative insights into our community life weekly throughout July and August. This Tuesday Talk is sponsored by society members Bill and Fran Myers.
