Jerry L. Hamilton of Newnan passed away at home on Friday, June 9, 2017 after a brief illness.
Although a native of Red Cloud, Nebraska, in 1948 Jerry moved with his parents, Hugh and Faye Saladen Hamilton, to Rapelje and later Hysham, Montana, where he grew up. After graduation from Hysham High School in 1948, Jerry joined the U.S. Navy and subsequently attended the U.S. Naval Academy from 1950-1954 where he graduated and was commissioned.
Following his naval service he worked for the Newport News Shipyard and Drydock Company and then had a long career with the Department of the Navy in Washington, D.C., where he worked as a combat systems engineer coordinating all weapon systems on the Navy’s aircraft carriers.
Upon his retirement in 1993 he relocated to Newnan, Georgia, where he has lived since. He is survived by his wife, Georgia Lea, of 42 years; his sons, Kenneth (Cindy) and Thomas; his step-daughter, Jennifer Klaussen; and his two grandchildren, Luke and Anna.
He will be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery.
