Major Bill Boiko was born January 6, 1930 in Medford, MA to Gregory and Antoinette Boiko, passed away February 8, 2018. He is survived by his sons, William and wife Rosa, Fr. John, Stephen, James, daughter Magda and husband Craig, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Margaret Mary June and his son Paul.
He graduated with a bachelor degree, 1954 from the Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD, a second bachelor in electrical engineering, 1967 from the University of Colorado at Boulder, and a master degree in Education, 1982 from the Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, TX, He was a member of Kappa Delta Pi. After graduating from the Naval Academy, he transferred to the Air Force and retired at the rank of Major after 22 years of service. While in the Air Force he did a tour in the Vietnam War. After retirement, he taught briefly at the University of Texas, at West Lake High School, at Austin Community College, and as a substitute teacher for AISD several years.
He selflessly volunteered his service in various capacities at St. Catherine of Sienna Catholic Church. He was a fourth-degree member of the Knights of Columbus at St. Catherine. He also served as precinct judge at the St. Elmo voting location. He was active in the Boy Scouts of America for many years. He was also an avid gardener.
Vigil services will be held from 6-8 pm, rosary at 7 pm at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 2620 S. Congress on Saturday, February 17, 2018. Mass will be celebrated at St. Catherine of Sienna Catholic Church on Wednesday, February 28 at 10 am. Interment with full honors at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, TX on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at 2 pm.
